    Foodsaver!

Let me tell you about this thing.  It’s awesome!  Ok forget that I’m a nerd and love sciency stuff.  Ok, nevermind, that’s important.  I put marshmallows in this thing and they puffed to twice their size, then released the vacuum and they shrank to even smaller than before.  Silly, I know but it was amusing to do, even more than once.

Well the real reason for this thing is to structure our eating.  It will help a number of ways.  First, I’ll prepare a variety of foods for the week, say, Sunday afternoon.  I’ll then seal the foods up for the week and freeze/refrigerate them as needed.  When the time comes, we pop them out, cut them open, heat them up, eat and be merry.

Dinner time can be hectic between feeding a baby and another baby that doesn’t want to eat half the time.  To be able to prepare a meal in a short amount of time with little effort will be a huge time saver.  All of the effort will go into making it the first time around.  I’m going with my mom today to get a freezer to store all of the sealed foods.

It’s so great that something that sucks can be so awesome!  I’m going to post pics of it at work and of what our weekly menu will look like but that’s a couple of days off.  To add to our budget meeting we’ll also be deciding on dinners (the most time consuming) and other snacks and so forth.  We won’t seal everything.  We make eggs in the morning and some snacks are basically already sealed from the store.  We’re eliminating the time consuming process of preparing certain meals.  Time is what we don’t have much of, so we’re budgeting it as well.  The Foodsaver should be a time saver.

Having your whole family sick. I’ll take the blame for it. The wife is down with pharyngitis now and my mother in law has it plus a nasty cold. I’m not done yet! Our 4 year old has pink eye oh joy. Well he’s not technically ill, at least not yet. He may still get the cold thing we have going around.

What a great way to ring in the new year!

It’s a setback right off the starting line but here’s the thing: that’s life. We can’t expect a plan to be foolproof. We have to adapt and take on these challenges as they present themselves. We almost ordered pizza last night because of it all but we didn’t. I went ahead and cooked up some veggies for dinner to go with the pot roast we had simmering. It was mighty good.

So for now, we need to get everyone healthy and get the place disinfected.

    more later…
